Car Insurance Minimum State Requirements
The first number refers to the amount needed minimum for each person injured. So NJ auto insurance needs to be at least $15,000 for each person. The second number refers to the minimum amount of coverage needed, that the insurance will pay,for all injured people in an accident. New Jersey car insurance you need $30,000 minimum in coverage.
Let's consider this: If there is a horrible wreck and 4 people are injured, which is very possible, all 4 people go to the hospital and costs are $15,000 each. Only NJ car insurance minimum was purchased. Auto Insurance in New Jersey will pay $15,000 for 2 people Because, the automobile insurance policy purchased will only have a maximum of $30,000. Who pays for the other 2 people? Usually the driver at fault.
Now, you don't need to get just the minimum. You can get a higher amount of coverage. And knowing hospital bills are rediculously high, you might need it. My daughter was airlifted to Children's Hospital in Chicago when she was 6. There is no child discount. With the helicopter and 2 day stay it cost about $40,000. She's fine now, but it ruined that summer. Leg broke in 3 places. Now it is 3 years later and she is doing cartwheels and flips. Got to love hospitals.
I recommend $100,000 Bodily Injury Car insurance coverage for each person and $300,000 total per accident. It may cost more, but it will be worth it. Also remember, Higher Auto insurance deductibles mean Lower monthly Car insurance costs.
